(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Jan. 24, 2008 –sixstepsrecords presents the latest of its award-winning live offerings, Passion: God of This City, on Feb. 5. With Passion event CDs selling more than 1.6 million copies, its long-awaited eleventh disc includes moments from Passion’07 in Atlanta and Passion Regional: USA Gatherings in Boston and Chicago last fall as well as a new live recording of Chris Tomlin’s recent No. 1 radio hit “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).”
Passion: God of This City, Passion's first new recording in almost two years, features songs from Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman, Christy Nockels, Kristian Stanfill and Fee. Partially recorded at Passion ’07 in Atlanta last Jan. 1-4, Passion’s largest indoor gathering to date with more than 23,000 students, the project includes songs never-before-recorded by Passion or sixstepsrecords such as “God of This City,” “Hosanna,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Beautiful Jesus,” “Walk the World,” and “God Of Our Yesterdays.” (see full track list below)
A first in Passion’s 11-year history, the movement is hosting gatherings in six major collegiate cities through April 2008. Among the first tour stops were Boston and Chicago, where songs like “Dancing Generation,” “God Of Our Yesterdays,” and “We Shine” were recorded. Also special to Passion: God of This City are two new Chris Tomlin songs, “Sing, Sing, Sing” and title track “God of This City,” written by Belfast, Ireland band Bluetree as a prayer for one of the world’s darkest cities, Padia, Thailand. Tomlin additionally recorded a live version of his radio hit “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” last week at No. 1 on the Radio & Records Christian AC Monitored chart and the Mediabase Christian AC chart for a second consecutive week.
“Passion: God of This City is more than just another collection of ‘Passion songs,’ although I couldn’t be more excited about the breadth of the artists represented and the new music this release will offer to the church worldwide,” says Louie Giglio, Passion Conferences and sixstepsrecords founder and director. “But more, this project captures the pulse of the Passion Movement as we prepare to circle the globe in 2008. The title track, “God Of This City,” is a powerful declaration of hope to people everywhere that greater things have yet to come, and exactly the message we want to carry to the students of London, Sao Paulo, Jakarta, Seoul and beyond.”
“With God Of This City, the Passion movement continues to set the standard for live recordings and also finds some new inspiration,” says Brad O’Donnell, vice president of A&R for EMI CMG. “There are a number of new songs that we believe will be important to the Church and many incredible moments captured here. This record really benefited from a few things we haven’t had for the last few Passion records: the energy that comes from being in smaller venues and the ability to choose between multiple performances of songs from different cities. We were able to look for the moments that something truly unexpected happened. We couldn’t be happier with how the record came out.”
Produced by Nathan Nockels (Tim Hughes, Watermark, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman), Passion: God of This City poignantly captures the voices of students crying out for God to move powerfully among their generation and throughout the globe. Appropriately, the music of Passion: God of This City will also play an important role in Passion Conferences’ first world tour. Kicking off this spring, the tour will gather university students in 18 influential cities around the world, including Kiev, Stockholm, Sao Paulo, Kampala (Uganda), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Paris, London, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jakarta (Indonesia), Sydney, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mexico City, Vancouver, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong (list tentative and subject to change). The album’s songs and artists will be involved along with Passion founder/director Louie Giglio. Additional information is forthcoming.
